Introduction to Alborz Province

Alborz province is the 31st of Iranian province. In a meeting of cabinet on Feb. 01, 2010, the bill of establishment of this province and was sent to Islamic Consultative Assembly. Then, it was ratified by Islamic Consultative Assembly and Alborz province was formed on June 28, 2010 officially. In this plan, Karaj was considered as the center of province. This city is located to the 20-km west of Tehran, and it was under coverage of Tehran province, and its population was 1,614,626 which was the fourth crowded city of Iran after Tehran, Mashhad and Isfahan. Meanwhile, former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, ex-president sent a letter to Ministry of Interior on Aug. 13, 2010 for execution of Alborz Province establishment, which was ratified in an open session by Islamic Consultative Assembly and certified by Guardian Council. Name of this province was derived from Alborz Mountain which a great northern part of this province is located on these mountains. On Sept. 13, 2010, by presence of Minister of Interior, Alborz Governor General commenced its activities officially. Eisa Farhadi was elected as the first Governor of province. In Nov. 2012, tentative broadcasting of Alborz provincial was started with 3 hours program per each day, and by March 2013 it received 8 hours per day. Alborz provincial channel was launched officially on May 25, 2013 with 10 hours program. Since all Iranian races live in Alborz Province, this channel was called “Iranian Races”.

o  Tourist Attraction of Province

Alborz Province is one of the provinces neglected by tourists regarding various natural and historical places.

Cultural, historical, natural, agricultural, industrial, etc. attractions of Alborz Province are somehow unknown that even some residents of Alborz province are also unaware of them!

Hillside of Alborz Mountains have always been permanent and provisional residences and habitats of various races and groups due to its nice climate, flowing rivers and safe shelters.

According to historical resources and documents of archeology, the works such as ancient areas and hills and historical buildings in Karaj, Taleghan, Savojbolagh and Nazarabad, all demonstrated that this region has a rich culture since prehistoric era.

Unknown beauties with astonishing nature, Alborz rivers with fresh water such as Karaj, Shahroud, Kordan and so pleasant springs, natural cave, high waterfalls, high mountains, olden trees, various animals and plant coverage, mineral water with medical effects, have made this province as one of the most attractive tourist provinces of the country considering natural phenomenon.

Population of Alborz province is 2.5 million. Karaj city is the third most crowded city of Iran after Tehran and Mashhad. It should be mentioned that 4 out of 5 the most crowded road of the country are located in Alborz Province.

 

Asef-ol-Doleh Bridge

It is located about 3 km in Karaj-Eshtehard road near south of Mardabad (Mahdasht) on Shour river which was constructed in Naser-ed-Din Shah Qajar era by Asef-ol-Doleh and it is known as Pole Shour (Shour Bridge) or Pole Roud Shour, some of which is ruined now.

 

Roude Shour (Shour River)

Shour River (Abhar river) or as it called by natives as Shourkat is a seasonal river in the north of Eshtehard which is flowing from west to east, and it is the only river of Eshtehard region. This river emanates from southwest of Avaj mountain (Qazvin province) and it is connected to Karaj river after irrigating Abhar, Qazvin, north part of Eshtehard and south part of Savojbolagh regions.

This river has Aphanius sophiae fish and in this season it has some birds such as Salim Toughi, shorebird, white Igret and Step Eagle and Raga was also observed by Alborz Ecotourists.

Due to river erosion in northern heights of Eshtehard (Halghe Dare hills), salt marsh is drained off to this section, Shour river has passed a west-east path in this part, and since the land has a little gradient, the speed of river is decreased and it is mostly absorbed by earth and Eshtehard desert is made.

By passing Shour River through this salt marsh, it gets more salty and it is completely salty near road police station of Mahdasht, and it goes to southeast and finally it falls to Qom Lake.

 

Shah Ababsi Caravanserai

Shah Abbasi Caravanserai originated to Safavids era; and it is located in center of city, beginning of Imamzadeh Hasan (PBUH) Blvd., and it has a stone-brick building.

This caravanserai belongs to Safavids era and was constructed among 1699 to 1730 at the time of Shah Soleiman Safavi. This building is located in the central part of Karaj in Alborz Province and in the southeast of Tohid square.

This caravanserai was originally constructed for convoys to rest and it was changed to a military castle at the beginning pf Qajar era, and it was used as a school (called Falahat) at the end of Qajar era. Total area of building was 3000 sqm. and area of middle courtyard is 900 sqm.

Entrance of caravanserai is from northern porch. There are 21 rooms with porch around central courtyard for resting passengers and five docks considered for maintaining goods and replacement of compeers and guards of convoys. This building was constructed with stone, brick, wood and thatch. Shah Abbasi Caravanserai in Karaj was registered on April 11, 1977 under No. 1368 in Iranian National Works List.

 

Imamzadeh Soleiman

Building of Imamzadeh Soleiman is located in 6-km to the east of Eshtehard which was constructed in Safavids era near Karaj-Eshtehard road. Imamzadeh Soleiman is one of the off springs of Imam Mousa Kazem (PBUH) and it is considered as one of the famous shrines of the region.

Building of Imamzadeh consists of one entrance arcades, porches and domes. The quadrangle space of inside dome is transformed into octagonal arch domes and then 16-sides arches.

 

Imamzadeh Zeid & Rahman (PBUH) or Three-Domes

In Rahmanieh village, Imamzadeh Zaid and Rahman, who are off springs of Imam Jafar Sadegh (PBUH) or three-domes are located near main road of Karaj.

Building of Imamzadeh is belonged to 7th and 8th century which has a special characteristic concerning architectural specifications, and it is considered as one of the religious specific building of the region.

 

This building has three domes and is belonged to three historical eras, while eastern dome was constructed in Ilkhani era, western dome in Teimouri era and northern dome was attached to them in Safavids era.

 

Khor Waterfall

Khor word is abbreviation of Khorshid (it means sun), Khor village with height of 2800 meter is located in western sidehill of Gandom Chal pink which is 3600 m higher than sea level at the beginning of Chalous road, near Karaj dam and is one of the high regions of central Alborz Mountain, and it has a unique nature where has a cool weather without humidity with picturesque regions such as peaks and green valleys and attractive gardens. Khor waterfall is one of the unique indicators of this district which is a special part of Iranian nature which is 60 meters height from ground.

Khor tourist region has special tourist and sport attractions such as mountain climbing and skiing. Their people are affectionate and hospitable with Islamic believes, and is located in center of village in an old cemetery which effects on stones with 600 to 700 years of age with names of people with suffixes of Khor could be observed, and also holy shrine of Imamzadeh Shahzadeh Asgari and Dejbar hill which are registered under the some names in Ancient Documents of Cultural Heritage Department.

 

Products of this region is types of apple, peach, pear, cherry, sour cherry, nuts, etc. and in spring wild species of plants such as Valak, acanthus, rhubarb, thyme and mushroom could be observed.

Considering mountain climate, animals such as ram, ewe, goat, wolf, Reynard, fox and Asian famous tiger, and bird such as Partridge, mountain poultry, eagle, merlin, owl, canary, nightingale, hoopoe and woodpecker, etc. Are observed.
